courey

Nominated by =LuckyMax " I found courey while browsing new deviations yesterday actually. I clicked her photo and was so awe inspired I had to check out the rest of her gallery. "

Thank you ~courey for taking the time to answer a few questions for the journal feature.

:star: How long have you been a photographer? :star:

"I started taking photos when I was about 7 years old. I remember quite clearly sneaking into my mother's bedroom and stealing her camera! 110 film was still pretty common, but 35mm was slowly but surely taking over. I guess that makes me pretty old. ;)"

:star:Are you a professional, or is photography just a hobby for you?:star:

"I am a professional photographer with a serious photography hobby; it's pretty much all I want to do! I am also a photography student at New York Institute of Photography, and will be graduating this summer. I really only got interested in photography as a career a few short years ago. I started self-teaching and spending a lot of time at the library and online trying to absorb as much information as I could about techniques and basics to try to improve. I'm sure you can look back a couple of pages in my gallery and see just how unskilled I used to be quite recently!"

:star:Any advice for people just starting out?:star:

"My best advice would be to learn everything you can. Accept the constructive criticism that people will surely give you; don't just shrug it off and say, "I like it that way," or "I meant to do that," or be angry that not everyone thinks your creation is perfect. Even if you really did mean to do it or you do like it that way, at least consider what the other person is saying - it may open your eyes to something you can improve on. Only once you've learned the rules of photography can you break the the rules effectively!"

:star:Digital or film? Why?:star:

"I enjoy using both digital and film; I see them as different tools for the same job. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, which I am not going to go into any further, since we all have been in our fair share of heated arguments over it, I'm sure! I think you just have to use the right tool for the right job, but there's no reason why a person has to use strictly one or the other all of the time for everything."
